If you struggle to communicate, you can get a “Communication Impediment” decal sticker for your license plate.

This sticker alerts police and first responders that they may be meeting someone with a communication barrier. This should help alleviate some of the misunderstandings and assumptions that can arise when a person isn’t responding as expected.

Folks who are deaf, hard of hearing, or mute could benefit from this decal sticker. It can also help folks who are nonverbal, have difficulty with social interactions, or struggle with making eye contact.

Here’s what to do if you need a decal for your car:

  1. Have your doctor fill out this form that says you qualify.
  2. Enter your information and your car’s description on the form. Sign it.
  3. Take the completed form to your DMV office. Get your sticker.
  4. Place the sticker on the upper left corner of your license plate.

For our friends who struggle with communication, this sounds like a super helpful tool.

I hope you never need to encounter police or first responders, but if you do – let’s hope this decal sticker makes the situation a bit easier for everyone.

Best wishes,

Deborah
