Question: After my disability application was denied, I filed my Request for Reconsideration appeal online. What should I expect next?

Answer: Nice job appealing online! Next, you will get a letter from Social Security that confirms they received your Request for Reconsideration appeal.

If you do not hear anything from Social Security within 2-3 weeks, follow up to make sure they actually received your request!

Social Security will likely send you more forms to complete. They may also send you forms for your doctor to complete. Make sure that all forms are filled out and promptly returned to Social Security. If you need help with these forms or have any questions, do not hesitate to contact your disability attorney.

In our area, it usually takes from 2 to 6 months to receive a decision from Social Security, at the Request for Reconsideration stage.

Most claimants are denied at this stage, so do not be too discouraged if you receive a denial letter. If you do, appeal again.
